American Cultural Center Resource Service
Introduction

The American Cultural Center Resource Service (ACCRS) of the American Institute in Taiwan provides an extensive open-stack collection of current materials about the United States. Most of the materials in the collection cover U.S. society and culture: history, arts and literature, economics, education, government and politics. The ACCRS also provides information electronically via the Internet at http://www.ait.org.tw and http://americancorner.org.tw

The ACCRS provides information on the U.S. electronically through two methods:

Library Orientation:

Orientation tours are conducted by our staff. Please call in advance to schedule a special orientation program for groups.

Books:

The ACCRS has about 4,000 volumes of books. Emphasis is on international relations, social sciences, arts and humanities.

Periodical & Newspaper Collection:

The ACCRS subscribes to about 76 general and specialized periodicals and three newspapers.

Pamphlets and U.S. Government Documents:

A wide range of pamphlets including U.S. Government documents and subjects of topical interest supplement the book collection.

Online database/Microfiche/microfilm:

The ProQuest online information service provides access to thousands of current periodicals, many containing full-text articles from 1986.  The microform collection compactly stores back issues of periodicals and other important materials, such as U.S. Statutes At Large (since 1789).

Videocassettes/DVD's:

The library has about 700 VHS videotapes and DVD's.

Regulations ^ TOP
  • Personal belongings, such as books, periodicals, briefcases, school bags, umbrellas, laptop computer, dictionaries, etc., may not be taken into the library. Library seating is limited and reserved for the convenience of library patrons using library materials.
  • Use of mobile phones or pagers is not permitted in the library.
  • Food and beverages are not permitted in the library.
  • Magazines, newspapers, pamphlets, books, special collections, and video materials may only be used in the library.
  • The library reserves the right to suspend or to withdraw library use privileges from members who mutilate books or other library materials, disturb other users, repeatedly fail to return library materials by the due date, fail to follow library regulations, or repeatedly violate ACCRS LAN regulations.
  • The Library has established computer guidelines to enable the widespread use of computers. We ask you to comply with these guidelines so that all users can benefit from this technology. Failure to follow these computer guidelines may result in the loss of computer use.
