Dependent Visas (F-2, J-2, and M-2)
Children under 21 years of age and the spouse of a student or exchange visitor visa holder may apply for a dependent visa together with the principal applicant. They may also apply separately with proof of F-1, J-1, or M-1 visa issuance to the principal applicant.
APPLYING FOR A VISA
- Please follow the steps listed on the “How to apply” page to submit your application and prepare the required documents.
- Please bring proof of your relationship to the F-1, J-1 or M-1 recipient such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate or household registration.
- Please provide financial evidence showing that you or your sponsor have sufficient funds to cover your living expenses during the period of your intended stay.
- Please present evidence to show that you have a residence abroad to which you intend to return at the end of the stay in the US. This is generally established by evidence of family, professional, property, employment or other ties and commitments to some country other than the US sufficient to cause you to return there at the conclusion of your stay.
- Each F-2 and M-2 applicant must present his or her own I-20 from the school in the United States showing both the applicant's name and the student's name. Students should sign on the bottom part of page 1.
- J-2 applicants must present form DS-2019 from the program sponsor in the U.S. Exchange visitors should sign on the bottom part of page 1.
