Specialty Occupations (H-1B) and Dependents (H-4)
Employers in the United States requiring temporary services of alien workers in specialty occupations must file a Form I-129, Petition for Nonimmigrant Worker, with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Once the H-1B specialty occupation petition is approved, the applicant may apply at the American Institute in Taiwan. Please note that approval of a petition does not guarantee visa issuance.
APPLYING FOR A VISA
- Please follow the steps listed on the “How to apply” page to submit your application and prepare the required documents.
- Please provide the receipt number of the approved I-129 petition. It is also helpful to bring a copy of the I-129 petition and a copy of the I-797 Notice of Approval to the visa interview.
- Please present proof of educational and work experience.
- Old I-20 forms, if available.
- Prior holders of J visas who are subject to the two-year Taiwan residency provision should provide evidence showing fulfillment of the residency requirement or obtain a waiver.
- Children under age 21 and the spouse of an H-1B visa applicant may apply for a dependent visa (H-4) together with the principal H-1B applicant. They may also apply separately with proof of H-1B visa issuance to the principal applicant.
