Intra-Company Transferees(L-1) and Dependents(L-2)
If you are applying for a visa as an L-1 intra-company transferee, the U.S. Company to which you will be transferred must file an I-129 petition with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on your behalf. Once the L-1 specialty occupation petition is approved, the applicant may apply at the American Institute in Taiwan. You must show that you have worked abroad for your company continuously at least one year out of the past three years in a managerial or executive capacity, or in a job requiring specialized knowledge. You must also show that the U.S.-based company is a branch, parent, affiliate, or subsidiary of your current employer. Please note that approval of a petition does not guarantee visa issuance.
APPLYING FOR A VISA
- Please follow the steps listed on the “How to apply” page to submit your application and prepare the required documents.
- Please provide the receipt number of the approved I-129 petition. It is also helpful to bring a copy of the I-129 petition and a copy of the I-797 Notice of Approval to the visa interview.
- Please present proof of educational and work experience.
- Children under age 21 and the spouse of an L-1 visa applicant may apply for a dependent visa (L-2) together with the principal L-1 applicant. They may also apply separately with proof of L-1 visa issuance to the principal applicant. Please provide proof of your relationship to the L-1 applicant such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate or household registration.
- Prior holders of J visas who are subject to the two-year Taiwan residency provision should provide evidence showing fulfillment of the residency requirement or obtain a waiver.
