At the reception, Howard Rossbach, President of the U.S. Northwest Wine Coalition and the owner of Oregon Firesteed Winery, Howard Rossbach, will introduce the diversity and unique qualities of Oregon wine to Taiwan consumers.
Oregon wines reflect the essence of the land where they are grown and of the people who craft them. In the 1970s, the pioneers found that the soils, weather, and gentle sunny slopes throughout the state enable wine grapes to ripen slowly during the summer and fall and to develop complex, exquisite flavors. Oregon wines are uniquely Oregon - from the cool climate varieties like Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris to warmer climate varieties like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. Most of the Oregon wines are primarily from small producers - many of whom make 5,000 cases or less - who believe that careful attention to details produces great wines. These pioneers and visionaries in Oregon are still actively involved with their wineries, but there are also second generation winemakers and artisans trying their hand at creating boutique wines. The Oregon winegrowing regions and winemakers are diverse, attributed to the varying microclimates throughout the state's 16 growing regions that enable the land to grow a broad range of varietals.
