Arrival Statement-- Benjamin A. Gilman, Chairman, House International Relations Committee U.S. House of Representatives
PR9940E | Date: 1999-08-08
We are very pleased to be here in Taiwan. I am proud to be leading a bipartisan delegation from the House of Representatives on a two-week fact-finding mission to East Asia and the South Pacific. Taipei is our first stop.
I have been following events in the Taiwan Strait very closely for the past few weeks and have come here to gain a fuller understanding of the situation.
I look forward to a series of productive meetings with our Taiwanese hosts and a constructive exchange of views on issues of mutual concern.
That is all for now but I will issue another statement upon our departure.
Thank you very much.
