Lost
or Stolen Passports
AIT requires applicants to present all old passports along with a valid passport when you apply for a visa. If you have lost a passport, you must provide AIT with a certified copy of your entry/exit record. This record is issued by the Bureau of Entry and Exit, 15 Kuang Chou St., Taipei, Telephone 2388-9393. It has come to our attention that many lost or stolen Taiwan passports are being fraudulently altered and used by persons other than the rightful owner to gain entry into the U.S. As a result, it is necessary for this office to institute certain procedures to guard against the misuse of U.S. visas. If you have lost your passport with an unexpired US visa and you wish to apply for a new visa, you must submit a new application. You should realize that the previous possession of a U.S. nonimmigrant visa is no guarantee that you will be issued a replacement visa in the event your passport was lost or stolen. Furthermore, you should realize that the validity of a replacement visa might not be the same as that of the original visa. The best way to avoid the inconvenience caused by losing a passport is to always protect your passport adequately against loss or theft. |
