Ms. Oudkirk became the Director of the American Institute in Taiwan in July 2021. She has been in the United States Foreign Service for 30 years and is delighted to return to Taiwan, which was also her first overseas posting, as the first woman to serve as AIT Director.
Deputy Director
Jeremy Cornforth is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. He assumed the position of Deputy Director of the American Institute in Taiwan in July 2021 after serving as Chief of the Consular Section at the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou, China.
Public Diplomacy Section Chief
Arend Zwartjes is the Public Affairs Officer at the AIT. He has worked for the U.S. State Department since 2003 and previously served in overseas posts in China, Barbados, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Cambodia.
Commercial Section Chief
Betsy Shieh currently serves as the Commercial Section Chief of the American Institute in Taiwan, where she manages a team of 20 marketing and customer service professionals. The team’s primary roles are to promote cooperation between U.S. firms, Taiwan companies and the Taiwan authorities.
Economic Section Chief
N. Rashad Jones currently serves as Economic Section Chief at the American Institute in Taiwan during July 2022. Throughout his career, Rashad has primarily worked on Asia and Latin American issues.
Political Section Chief
Richard Jao is the Political Chief at AIT. He previously served as the Political External Unit Chief at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, which covered U.S.-China relations and Chinese foreign policy, particularly its relations with North Korea.
