Betsy Shieh is the AIT Commercial Section Chief, after having served as Deputy Chief for one year. She previously served as Principal Commercial Officer in Guangzhou, China and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Following two years at a New York Commerce office in the early 2000s Betsy started her foreign service career abroad serving three consecutive tours at the U.S. embassy in Beijing.
Prior to joining the Commercial Service Betsy’s career included serving as Executive Director in two international trade associations in New York City and as Product Manager in the export trading company of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Betsy has a master’s degree in international public administration and a bachelor’s degree in foreign languages, both from New York University. Betsy’s experience in the Asia Pacific began when she went to China in 1982 as a student of Chinese at Xiamen University and she has been traveling back and forth to China and Taiwan ever since. She is married to a consultant and professor of Chinese politics and has two grown children.
