AIT Co-Sponsors Workshop on Creativity, Originality, and Intellectual Property in Digital Media
The American Institute in Taiwan Public Affairs Section is pleased to co-sponsor a workshop entitled "Creativity, Originality, and Intellectual Property in Digital Media." With the explosive growth of digital media (game software, digitization of museum artwork and library collections, digital art, advertising) Taiwan's art, design, information technology, academic, advertising, and business communities are facing many challenges in protecting these types of new original material. Panelists from a wide range of institutions will showcase Taiwan's world-quality original digital content and discuss methods to protect its Intellectual Property Rights. Panelists will be drawn from the Taiwan Art University, the National Palace Museum, The Digital Education Institute, the Institute for Information Industry, the Chinese Library Association, the Hwa Lien District Prosecutor's Office, the Judge & Prosecutors Training Institute, and the Judicial Yuan. The program will close with a panel discussing the issue of creativity--whether it can be learned and how imagination can serve as a source for innovation.
The program's featured speaker will be Dr. John Antoine Labadie, a 2005-2006 Fulbright Scholar now teaching in National ChengChi University in Taiwan. He has been a professor in the Art Department at the University of North Carolina (UNCP) Pembroke since 1994 and is the founder of the Digital Fine Arts program there. He is the Director of the UNCP Digital Academy, a multi-departmental collaboration offering undergraduate new media courses, and a range of creative and technical media services and activities. The Digital Academy hosts on-campus and intra-campus activities including monthly presentations known as 'Digital Soup and Sandwich' and an annual conference called the 'Digital Content Consortium.'
All members of the media as well as interested members of the general public are invited to attend.
