Secretary Richardson to Visit Taiwan
During his visit, Secretary Richardson will discuss economic and commercial issues of mutual interest to the United States and Taiwan, particularly in the energy sector. He will also meet with representatives of the U.S. business community in Taipei to discuss their participation in Taiwan's economy. Secretary Richardson's visit reflects the extensive economic and commercial ties between the United States and Taiwan. The United States is Taiwan's largest trading partner, absorbing 23 percent of Taiwan's exports and supplying 20 percent of its imports. In 1997, Taiwan was the eighth-largest trading partner of the U.S. and our seventh-largest export market.
Secretary Richardson is scheduled to arrive in Taipei on November 9 and will depart on November 11.
