GCTF Anti-Corruption Workshop

On June 13-14, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Taiwan Ministry of Justice (MOJ), the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association (JTEA), the Australia Office Taipei, the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei, and the British Office Taipei co-hosted the “2023 GCTF International Workshop on Multi-Stakeholder Engagement in Anti-Corruption”.

This two-day GCTF focused on exchanging ideas to strengthen anti-corruption efforts across the Indo-Pacific region and the world.  The workshop was the first held in-person in Taiwan since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, during which most GCTF workshops switched to a virtual format.

Law enforcement and other officials, experts, scholars, and NGO professionals shared practical experiences combatting corruption and discussed trends and feasible policy directions.  Panelists from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Federal Bureau of Investigation presented on mutual legal assistance and recovery of assets linked to corruption.

As the United Nations Convention against Corruption approaches its 20th anniversary in October this year, this event highlighted Taiwan’s commitment to continued implementation of convention requirements and strengthening international law enforcement efforts to tackle corruption.

AIT, Taiwan MOFA, JTEA, and the Australian Office Taipei jointly administer the GCTF program, which is a capacity-building platform for Taiwan to share its expertise in tackling issues of global concern.
