OPENING DATE: December 4, 2018
CLOSING DATE: December 26, 2018
INTERNSHIP PERIOD: March 2019 through July 2019
HOURS REQUIREMENT: Minimum hours worked per week: 20 hours

The exact work days are not fixed and will be arranged between the individual intern and the section.
(Note: Students should discuss work schedule during the interviews.  Certificate of Internship will only be issued to those students who complete at least 2/3 hours of the program).

COMPENSATION

There are no benefits, compensation, or any future employment rights attached to this internship.  However, students would gain valuable experience in various areas of U.S. Mission, and possible academic credit that your schools may consider to award.

ELIGIBILITY

Successful applicants must be:

  1. Taiwan citizens;
  2. 18 years of age or older;
  3. Active students with at least two years of university studies (i.e. junior, senior or graduate students);
  4. In good academic standing and have their school’s endorsement;
  5. With an agreement from current schools.

DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS


A. AIT Kaohsiung

Duties: Assist with the preparation of documents for the Consular section. Assist with clerical tasks and event preparatory work as required. Assist with gathering information for economic reporting in southern Taiwan, including conducting research, updating PowerPoint presentations, and compiling contact and biographical information on southern Taiwan business, government, and academic figures. Perform written translation from Chinese to English or English to Chinese. Assist with the preparation and execution of AIT/K’s outreach events, including Public Affairs events and representational activities.
Education and Academic Training: Must be studying actively towards a degree in Political science, English, International relations, Journalism, Business, Public relations or related field.
Language Proficiency: Must have strong English skills and be fluent in Chinese Mandarin.
Skills: Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.

Duties: Assist with designing, scheduling of AIT/K social media content. Monitor and analyze response to AIT/K social media. Provide graphic design support to AIT/K initiatives. Provide logistical and administrative support for AIT/K programs. Assist other sections as required. Support broader AIT/K representational events as needed.
Education and Academic Training: Must be studying actively towards a degree.
Language Proficiency: Fluent in English and Mandarin.
Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.


B. AIT Taipei

DutiesHelp with archiving text materials and transcribing audio/video materials for the need of class room teaching. Join CLASS area studies activities and provide cultural information. Meet occasionally with CLASS students for language exchange purpose.
Education and Academic Training: Must be studying actively towards a degree in Liberal Arts, Languages, Journalism, or Education.
Language Proficiency: Native speaker equivalent, Mandarin Chinese; Good working knowledge of English; Other world languages preferred not required.
Skills: Microsoft Windows and Office Suite; Word processing; Web-based Operation.

Duties: Follow Taiwan’s developments in specific market sectors and brief Commercial Officers on those developments. Undertake research for, and assist with writing major market opportunity reports published and maintained by the Department of Commerce. Provide assistance to Commercial Officers and Commercial Specialists conducting Department of Commerce services by participating in meetings, conferences, and/or other trade-related activities.Conduct business analysis. Assist Commercial Officers and Specialists in developing and/or launching new Commercial Sections products, including web site design. Assist with trade conferences and events.
Education and Academic Training: Economics and/or trade related major.
Language Proficiency: Fluent in English and Mandarin.
Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Duties: Develop and maintain CLO Online Portals. Attend CLO meetings with NGOs, schools, travel agencies, and other local cooperators and update and compile POC list. Provide assistance in creating brochure on places to visit throughout Taiwan, “Beyond Taipei,” and a Volunteer and Service Opportunities booklet. Research local volunteer organizations and compile a list for publication. Update TDY Welcome to Taipei booklet, which includes cultural awareness, quick guides, local information, transportation and shopping. Assist in preparations in CLO orientation events, including departure seminar and welcome folders for newcomers 2019. Help with event coordination and set up, Easter party, farewell, 4th of July, monthly coffee morning and other events. Assist in other office tasks.
Education and Academic Training: Information Management, visual design, communication, journalism, tourism, and other related fields of study.
Language Proficiency: English and Mandarin with good working proficiency.
Skills: Microsoft Publisher, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and any web design tools.

American Citizen Services Unit

Duties: Assist with clerical tasks and event preparatory work as required. Assist in special American Citizen Services, such as hospital visits, as needed. Assist in passport application data entry. Assist in window operations on passport days. Perform written translation from Chinese to English or English to Chinese. Perform special projects as needed.
Education and Academic Training: Must be studying actively towards a degree.
Language Proficiency: Must have strong English skills and be fluent in Mandarin.
Skills: Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is required.


Immigrant Visa Unit

Duties: Assist with prescreening and intake procedures – accept, review, note discrepancies in, and enter data from applicant documents – for all immigrant visa types. Assist with special immigrant visa cases including I-407s, Boarding Foils, SB-1s, Re-Entry Permits, and adoptions. Assist with visa production, including placement of visas in passports and quality assurance. Assist with drafting responses to public inquiries. Assist with clerical tasks and event preparatory work. Rotate into and/or assist other units in the Consular section. Implement special projects.
Education and Academic Training: Must be studying actively towards a degree.
Language Proficiency: Must have strong English skills and be fluent in Mandarin.
Skills: Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is
required.


Non-Immigrant Visa Unit

Duties: Assist with intake procedure- accept, review, note discrepancies in, and enter data from applicant documents for every nonimmigrant visa type. Assist with visa production, including placement of visas in passports and quality assurance. Assist with drafting responses to public inquiries as required. Assist with clerical tasks and event preparatory work as required. Implement special projects as needed.
Education and Academic Training: Must be studying actively towards a degree.
Language Proficiency: Must have strong English skills and be fluent in Mandarin.
Skills: Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is required.

Duties: Update related stakeholders’ profile and CV. Assist event/program arrangement and logistics. Provide general office assistance. Critical thinking/input and domestic economic update would be an asset.
Education and Academic Training: University students with economic background and understanding of the latest Taiwan economic policy and development.
Language Proficiency: Good command of English and Mandarin.
Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Duties: Help create and review contacts for accuracy in database for July 4th event for the purpose of determining proper protocol for dignitaries and international representatives. Research Contacts. Review e-mail addresses of contacts to ensure accuracy. Assist with logistics of the historical ceremonial event of the ribbon cutting for the new AIT office compound. Organize paperwork to manage records disposition.
Education and Academic Training: Must be studying actively towards a degree.
Language Proficiency: Fluent in Mandarin and English.
Skills: Database experience.

Duties: Assists with recruitment activities such as prescreening applications, conducting language tests, contacting applicants and scheduling interviews. Assists with awards program such as printing certificates, arranging venue, contacting vendors, scanning nominations, updating database, etc. Assists with language program with reviewing monthly attendance for billing purpose, preparing PO modifications and logging student record. Assists with local student program: reviewing the applications, updating student information into the applicant log. Assist with the move to NOC including helping with staffing plan, providing logistical support to HR team. Assist with HR Fairs, AIT@40 events, and American HR portfolios as required. Provide daily administrative support and assist with HR records management, such as maintaining electronic and hard copy contents and organizing records disposition schedule of personnel files and updating electronic files; organizing classification documents and historical records of position classification.
Education and Academic Training: Must be studying actively towards a degree in Liberal Arts, Science, Humanities, Management or Business. Previous experience in providing customer service or working on administrative matters, in an office environment, voluntary work, overseas student exchange will be considered in the hiring process.
Language Proficiency: Good command in English and Mandarin both oral and written.
Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Duties: Update biographies of POL’s contacts. Check the RSVP status of the July 4th reception. Assist the junior specialist in updating the Contact Database. Compile information for 2018 local elections and prepare background information for 2020 presidential and legislative elections. Arrange meetings with college/ graduate students.
Education and Academic Training: College/ Graduate Students majoring in political science, international relations, law, or English.
Language Proficiency: Good working knowledge of English.
Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Duties: Attend and support cultural programs and other outreach events. Assist with compiling and analyzing social media metrics. Assist with research and production of AIT@40-related materials and programs, including developing programs for new American Spaces. Assist with alumni outreach and help draft Facebook posts and assist with planning for social media engagement (including video). Monitor popular social media sites in Taiwan. Assist with translation for PDS programs and materials. Assist with organizing, executing, and compiling press reports for public diplomacy programs, including press events. Prepare and process orders of books and/or IIP publications for outreach programs and American Spaces. Help update PDS contact information; scan and update records and data for contact database. Assist with American Spaces program
including outreach and developing new programs. Help with IVLP data management and AIT website article importing and exporting. Catalogue CLASS library holdings to include in IRC online catalogue.
Education and Academic Training: University Students studying Political Science, History, English, Art, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Library Science, International Affairs, or related fields.
Language Proficiency: Fluent English and Mandarin Chinese.
Skills: Microsoft Office Suite (especially PowerPoint, Excel, Word); video editing; Familiarity with popular social media platforms.
