The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), Taipei City Government, National Space Organization (NSPO) of National Applied Research Laboratories (NARLabs), and g0v Jothon hosted the 2021 NASA Space Apps Challenge Hackathon in Taipei from October 2-3.  Apart from being the competition’s tenth anniversary, this year also marked AIT’s fifth year supporting the hackathon.

The 2021 NASA International Space Apps Challenge received 28,000 registrations from over 320 locations globally, including38 teams and 182 participants from Taipei.  For the first time, every Taiwan team submitted their solutions in English, ensuring that researchers worldwide can benefit from their innovative solutions.  Submissions included topics ranging from light curvature to mapping space trash in real time and calculating the impact of COVID-19 to combating the loss of insect biodiversity.  The event also provided a platform to showcase Taiwan’s extraordinary skills and innovative solutions on a global stage.  Congratulations and best of luck to the three teams who have been nominated to represent Taiwan on the global judging stage!
