Description: In collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Foundation for Scholarly Exchange, AIT hosted the second U.S.-Taiwan Education Initiative Symposium Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. The event gathered 400 in-person and online participating attendees, including representatives from the National Security Council, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC), as well as Mandarin teachers from across Taiwan and the United States, including the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTA) and MOE recruited Mandarin teachers, and OCAC’s overseas Mandarin teachers. In his opening remarks, AIT Deputy Director Cornforth highlighted U.S.-Taiwan joint efforts that have created more opportunities for Americans to learn Mandarin in Taiwan and for Taiwan’s Mandarin teachers to teach in the United States.
