Event: The Third High-Level Dialogue under the U.S.-Taiwan Education Initiative

Description: U.S. Department of State Bureau of East Asian and Pacific (EAP) Affairs Deputy Assistant Secretary Camille Dawson traveled to Taiwan for the Third High-Level Dialogue on the U.S.-Taiwan Education Initiative on February 22.  The Dialogue highlighted the importance of cooperation on international education among likeminded, democratic partners in support of free and open education, free of coercion and censorship.  The U.S. delegation was led by EAP Assistant Secretary Dan Kritenbrink (virtually) and on the Taiwan side by Deputy Secretary-General of Taiwan’s National Security Council Szu-chien Hsu (virtual).  U.S. attendees also included Managing Director of AIT Washington Ingrid Larson (in person) and AIT Acting Director Jeremy Cornforth (in person), with virtual participation from U.S. Department of Education Chief of Staff Shelia Nix and Senior Advisor and Director of International Affairs Maureen McLaughlin, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) Deputy Assistant Secretary Rosenzweig and ECA Senior Policy Advisor David Plack. Taiwan’s in-person participation included Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Roy Lee and Vice Minister Alexander Tah-ray Yui, Deputy Minister of Education Mon-Chi Lio, Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Vice Minister Roy Leu, and National Development Council (NDC) Deputy Minister Keh-her Shih.
